Is ripplefox still active? I’m currently living in china and would love to purchase some XRP and the taobao links you provided don’t exist anymore. Could you please point me in the right direction.
Hi, Tevin. Sorry to keep you waiting. RippleFox is only active as a discussion and information site, and only in Chinese. The QQ group is still active, so if your Chinese is pretty good you can join the group to ask questions. The Ripple vouchers have not been available on TaoBao since the government cracked down on the Bitcoin exchanges and generally made obtaining any cryptocurrency a real pain in the ass. There is now an Android app, BitShares MagicWallet, offering OTC exchanges of yuan into Bitshares, which I have used a few times.
Hi, what is the name of the bitshares magic wallet in Chinese? is it easy then to send the bitshares to another wallet address and convert to ripple? Seems strange the govt would allow that app to exist…anyway, thanks!
Hi,Thank you for your post.Following your guide, I’ve managed to get to the step where i need to purchase my first 20 XRP, however i am stuck at this step now and i am having a very hard time finding a way to exchange yuan to Ripple or any other coins for that matter. I’ve tried some of the suggestions you provided above but i am still stuck unfortunately.Would you have any other suggestions for me please?
The website for the project is https://www.magicw.net. They have both an Android and an iOS app.
The app offers an OTC interface, like localbitcoins or coincola. In other words, you cannot directly buy BTS with yuan. You find a middleman/-woman who will accept your yuan, then credit the proper amount of BTS to your wallet. From there, it is very easy to send the BTS to another Bitshares wallet, either your own or to an exchange like Bittrex or OpenLedger.
OpenLedger does not offer XRP, but it does provide a wide variety of other tokens. Bittrex does offer XRP, but you need to exchange BTS for Bitcoin first.
MagicWallet, Coincola and LocalBitCoins are taking advantage of a loophole in Chinese law, which may or may not be closed later this year.
It is now very difficult to use yuan to buy XRP directly, especially if your Chinese is not very good. The Ripple vouchers once offered for sale on TaoBao are gone. RippleFox maintains a QQ group, so it would be possible to find someone willing to sell you XRP, I suppose. I would advise using the Bitshares MagicWallet instead, or the other OTC services like LocalBitCoins or Coincola to buy Bitcoin, Litecoin or Ethereum, and not bother with trying CNY-XRP exchanges.
For others inquiring about buying Ripple in China, you can also refer to this post I wrote in November for my sister site, WHEAT-DOGG’S CRYPTO-INFO PAGES. It does not specifically discuss Ripple, but once you have Bitcoin, Litecoin or Ethereum, you can easily exchange them XRP on any exchange offering Ripple XRP.
